Mrs. Kara Eby, Kindergarten Teacher
John C. Myers welcomes Mrs. Eby, who is joining our already awesome kindergarten team for the 2016-17 school year! She is coming to our school from Lacey Spring Elementary. Mrs. Eby graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in 2009 with a double major in Art and Digital Media. After graduation, she worked for RCPS in different assistant positions, most recently as the computer lab assistant at Lacey Spring Elementary from 2010 to 2015. Through these experiences, she discovered a love for teaching and went back to school to get a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Mary Baldwin College. After graduating in December 2014, she began her teaching career at Lacey Spring Elementary in kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year. Mrs. Eby is excited to join the John C. Myers kindergarten team this fall. Mrs. Eby is married to her high school sweetheart, Kevin, and lives in Harrisonburg with their dog, Calvin. They are excited to welcome a baby boy this fall.
Ms. Sara McDonald, Kindergarten Teacher
Ms. McDonald began her teaching career at Plains Elementary as a kindergarten teacher in 1993. Since the 2008-2009 school year and has served as our second grade teacher up until 2015. She now teaches our kindergarteners.
She is a Broadway High School graduate, class of 1988. She went on to attend Bridgewater College (1988-1992), where she received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education NK-4.
Her two favorite quotes are "If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you! If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you" ~Unknown and "Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best." ~Bob Talbert. Both quotes inspire a willingness to think for yourself and be the best that you can possibly be!
Ms. McDonald enjoys spending time with her two sons and doing lots of summer outdoor activities!
Ms. Whitney Osborne, Kindergarten Teacher
Ms. Osborne is a Roanoke Valley Christian School graduate. Upon graduation she attended Bridgewater College where she graduated with a B.S. in Liberal Studies. Her teaching profession has taken her many places. She started her career at A.R. Ware Elementary in Staunton, Virginia. She then moved back to her alma mater, Roanoke Valley Christian Schools, where she taught third grade for two years. She guided the students of the third grade here at JCMES from 2008 to 2016 before joining the Kindergarten team in 2016. Ms. Osborne's favorite quote is from one of her favorite books, Anne of Green Gables, "Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it." She states that " it is a reminder that it's okay to get it wrong sometimes. Just keep trying!".
Ms. Osborne loves to read! Two of her all-time favorite series are Anne of Green Gables and Harry Potter. She likes to play sports ( soccer is her favorite) and she LOVES dogs! Her favorite breed of dog is the kind she owns; a pug.
Ms. Tiffany Sherman, Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Sherman is a Broadway High School Graduate, Class of 2002. Upon graduation she attended Bridgewater College where she graduated with a degree in Liberal Studies. She recently completed requirements for her masters in Reading Education from James Madison University through the Outreach and Engagement Program.
She has taught at John C. Myers since 2005, serving first as a second grade teacher then a Kindergarten Teacher.
She is married to her high school "sweetheart" Johnathan since 2006 and she has two "kids", her cats Scooter and Nala.
Mrs. Sherman enjoys singing with a small church band called, "Chasing Grace", where she serves as a vocalist and her husband plays the guitar.
