Good evening JCMES families, 

This email is a mid-week update providing some details on events that are currently happening or coming soon at John C. Myers.  

  • Throughout the week the principals have started visiting each classroom to review behavior expectations for our school.  This is an opportunity for us to talk with students about our expectation that they follow the rules of their classroom and teacher and then we take each class on a little school-based field trip where we practice and discuss behavior expectations for the hallway, cafeteria, recess and buses.  While the purpose of these meetings is serious, Mrs. Branner and Mrs. Imbrescia are absolutely loving the extra time with each class!  Our students are kind, good listeners and have such a genuine willingness to want to do their best!  We love our students! 

  • Friday, September 1: Our first Walk to School morning will be held on Friday from 7:45-8:15am.  This is a monthly, weather permitting, event where families are simply invited to walk to school from their homes or the nearby church or school parking lot.  It’s a great way to start the day with some fresh air and exercise.  We sometimes have special guests or other activities happening too.  Our first Walk to School of the year does not have a theme but we invite students to wear their new green Jakes shirt if they would like.  Save the date for October 6 when we will be inviting first responders to join us greeting or walking with students. 

  • Friday, September 1 - Wednesday, September 13: Each year the school has 1-2 fundraisers that help provide the funds needed for the year for classroom supplies, furniture, after school programs, and specials guests and assemblies.  Our first fundraiser will be a catalog of items available for purchase.  The school receives a percentage of all sales.  In addition, the fundraising company provides some small prize type incentives for students.  Participation is the fundraiser is completely optional of course.  Students will be coming home on Friday with a fundraiser package containing all the details. 

  • This year our PTA is changing format to now be a PTO which stands for Parent Teacher Organization.  This change is explained as well as updates for the fall on the first PTO newsletter of the year.  

  • We are hiring!  JCMES has a current opening for a part time morning instructional assistant and a full time special education assistant.  These are brand new positions for us and we are VERY excited to have new staff members working with our students! Email or call an administrator if you may be interested!
