Dear JCMES Families,

This week marks the beginning of the second nine weeks of school.  We have some goals for our students for the new nine weeks that we’d like to share with you.  First, we have now settled into our routines and expectations of school and we are ready to tighten the expectations on behavior and increase our student’s stamina to be at school and ready to learn each day.  The second and third nine weeks are typically when we see the most academic growth in students and we want to see each student make as much progress as possible.  This means the start of some afterschool tutoring opportunities, an increased push not to miss school except when necessary, and we will also look toward identifying individual areas to work with students on whether it may be reading, math or setting behavior goals.  Parent-teacher conferences are a great way to hear directly from your child’s teacher on the goals they have for your child.  Please make an effort to attend in person or schedule a phone conference for Monday with your child’s teacher.  Thank you for supporting a strong partnership between home and school.

There are many upcoming events to mark on your calendar, please read on for details!

Tuesday, November 14th - Parent Council 5:45pm - Open invitation to interested parents - Our parent council format will be different this year with a highlighted topic for each meeting and an open invitation to any parents to join us that would like to discuss.  Our November topic will be the start of our ‘School to Home’ connection series.  An informational sheet will be coming home with all students that gives ideas for talking about school with your child as well as understanding school “lingo”.  We have many acronyms for assessments, special programs, and so much more at school that are not things that many may be familiar with.

Save the date!  Bring Your Parent to PE week is set for December 11-15th.  For those early planners, check your email for a link to the document that gives a guide to which days/times that week your child will have PE.

Take care,
