Dear JCMES Families,

Thank you for the tremendous amount of support you showed us this week by attending parent teacher conferences!  This is a busy day for teachers but we truly love being able to talk about your child with you!  We get to share what we see at school and it helps us a great deal to know how your child perceives school when they are talking about it at home.  In our continual effort to strengthen our relationships with families a handout is coming home this week that is the start of our “school to family” connection series.  Last year our faculty got together and made giant posters of all the things we want parents to know about school.  Everything from how we view grading and discipline to how we teach relationship behaviors at school such as navigating friendships (and conflict too!) to all the types of support services we have at school from special education, english learner classes, reading and math tutoring, extracurricular and more! It will take us quite a while to get this information out but our ultimate goal is just for parents to know how school works!  We’re proud of the work we do and always looking to get better and we think the more parents can be informed the more you can partner with us for your child's success!  So, the first installment of our series is available digitally here and also look for a paper copy to come home tomorrow. School to Family Series (English and Spanish)

Congratulations Alyssa Green, JCMES Teacher of the Year! This is Alyssa’s 10th year teaching and her 7th year at John C. Myers! Teaching has been something she has wanted to do her entire life. She has taught Kindergarten for many years and now is in her third year in First Grade. She is originally from Johnstown, Pennsylvania but moved to the Shenandoah Valley permanently after college and getting married. She is married to her best friend, Jared, and they have two young children, Emma and Luke. She is passionate about early childhood development and education. One of her favorite things about teaching is getting to know so many families. She loves collaborating and communicating with families and has come to know so many of them so well! When she's not teaching, she enjoys designing content and curriculum, making music, and laughing. Congratulations Mrs. Green!

Take care,
