Dear JCMES Families,

Have you ever heard of putting a crayon in the freezer?  Maybe the importance of flushing ice cubes down the toilet?  Or sleeping with your pajamas inside out?  No? Then let us introduce you to some good old fashioned elementary school tips and tricks for bringing the snow! In case you haven’t heard the forecast, our students are getting just a little bit excited about the prospect of the first snow of the year this weekend!  They might not get a “snow day” out of it but we will still welcome the chance to see some beautiful snow on Saturday.  To help encourage the snow, we are inviting any staff and students that would like to wear their pajamas on Friday (and even inside out if they wish!) just for fun!  While joyfully waiting for those snowy days is a special part of childhood, we would also like to acknowledge all the many people that must continue to work in our community during any kind of weather from our own custodians that are also our snow removal personnel to medical, electricians, VDOT, first responders, and so many more.  Thank you!

This week we are busy getting back into the routine of school.  We are thankful for time spent over the holidays with family and friends and now we are ready for the second half of the year!  This update has quite a bit of information so please take a moment when you are able to see what we have coming up soon at JCM.

More JCM News:

  • Please read this important information from RCPS Food & Nutrition Services.  This is a great way to help the school if you shop at Martin's grocery store:

The GIANT Company is partnering with Rockingham County Public Schools to support students facing food insecurity. From January 1 through March 31, everyone who shops at Martin's in Harrisonburg will be invited to "round up" at the register and donate the round-up amount of their bill to support Feeding School Kids. The GIANT Company will directly support customers' generosity by matching all donations up to $100,000.

Last year, RCPS Food & Nutrition Services received a generous $6,985.67 to reduce outstanding student meal debt and received numerous non-perishable food donations donated by Martin's customers that were distributed to families in need around the district.

Have a wonderful week!

Take Care,
