Dear JCMES Families,
Today was such a fun day at school! Today was the 100th day of school and of course Valentine’s Day! Walking around the building we had all kinds of outfits from students and staff dressed like they were 100 years old to glittery red hearts galore and shirts decorated with 100 very creative items! Ms. McDonald (kindergarten) even found a way to celebrate both special days at once with 100 hearts on her shirt! We sure love a theme day in elementary school and two at once was twice the fun! (And we might be twice as tired too!)
This week kicks off random acts of kindness week! We will celebrate on Friday with ‘make a friend’ day when students are encouraged to match with a friend or wear your favorite JCM shirt and match with lots of friends around the building. We will also spread kindness all next week with special activities and announcements from our school counselors as well as a school service project. Our SCA (Student Council) will be collecting canned food items to donate to a local food pantry. Students are encouraged to bring in canned or nonperishable foods any day next week and drop off in the boxes in the foyer. To add a little extra fun, the grade level with the most donated items will earn a special treat!
Title 1 Survey - Would you take a moment and help fill out our survey if you attended the literacy evening event on February 1st? Title 1 surveys are required to be sent out after each of our events however it’s much more than a requirement to us. It’s how we get better! Yearbook Sales - All yearbook sales will be done online this year. Go to the website below, select "Order Pictures and Yearbooks" and enter the online code "YB28937." Fill in the required information and payment, and you're all set! If you order before February 19th, the cost is $15. If you order after February 19th the cost is $18. https://www.strawbridge.net/

Friday, February 16 - National Make a Friend Day! Celebrate by dressing like a friend OR wear your favorite JCMES shirt and you are sure to find LOTS of friends that are dressed like you! (And maybe some teachers too!)

The PTO Spring Auction is coming soon! In a little less than a month our PTO will host the biggest fundraiser of the year, our online auction! Last week a paper went home with families to help us identify local businesses that may be interested in making a donation to our auction. If you are able to help with the auction or know of a business or individual that may want to donate an item please return the form or reach out to our auction coordinator, Mallory, by emailing jcmesauction@gmail.com. Watch for class plates, local donated items and teacher experience packages in the auction!
March is Youth Art Month and we are so excited to partner with Hess Financial located in downtown Harrisonburg to show off some of our students’ amazing artwork. Our art teacher, Mrs. Janae Flores, has been working with students for the past several months to create pieces to enter into the art show. Any student that would like their artwork featured can contribute! Check with your child to see if he/she entered a piece. Artwork will be on display (some framed and some in albums) at Hess Financial the month of March and a special open house will take place on March 1 from 5-7pm during downtown Harrisonburg’s First Friday event!
