Dear JCMES Families,
What a wonderful start to the school year it has been! The energy and enthusiasm our students have brought into the building is truly heartwarming. They’ve come in ready to learn, and we couldn’t be more proud of how quickly they are settling into school routines. It’s been a joy to see their smiling faces in the hallways and classrooms, and we are excited to watch them continue to grow and thrive as the year unfolds.
First JCMES Spirit Day
This Friday, August 23rd, marks our first spirit day of the year, and we’re kicking it off in style! We encourage all students to wear their brand-new 2024-2025 Jakes shirts to show their school pride. Let’s fill the hallways with our school colors and celebrate the start of a fantastic year together. We can’t wait to see everyone in their Jakes gear!
Morning Drop-Off Reminders
This year our morning tardy bell will ring at 8:13.
If you would like to walk your child into school, we ask that you park in the lower parking lot and walk up. The 15 minute parking spaces in front of the school are not for routine drop offs. These spaces are for parents that are bringing in snacks, dropping off a forgotten item, taking medications to the nurse or have other business within the school.
There is considerable traffic in the mornings around the school. Please supervise children very carefully as they cross the parking lot if you are walking in.
New Toy Policy at JCMES
This year, we have implemented a new toy policy to help minimize distractions during class time and prevent special toys from home from getting lost. We are proud of how well our students have done in upholding this new policy during the first days of school! We understand that students may bring toys and trading cards to play with at after-school daycare programs, which is perfectly fine. However, during the school day, all toys and trading cards must remain in backpacks. Rest assured, we have plenty of recess equipment for outdoor play, and our classrooms are well-stocked with toys, manipulatives, and games. Additionally, for students who need them, we have a wide variety of fidget items available for sensory support. Teachers may still allow students to bring toys on special days for rewards or projects, and you’ll receive information about that in advance. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a focused and fun learning environment for all students
Virtual Parent Support Group
This fall, Shenandoah Family Therapy will be offering a virtual support group specifically designed for parents of elementary-aged children facing behavioral or emotional challenges. The group will be led by Hannah Gibson, a graduate intern working towards her master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. This support group will provide education on effective parenting approaches, a chance to connect with other parents navigating similar challenges, and mental health support tailored for parents.
Sessions will begin in September, with a cost of just $10 per session. Additionally, there are some pro-bono (free) spots available for families in need. Space is limited, and registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to sign up, please refer to the following flyer link: Stronger Together
