Dear JCMES Families,
We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing long weekend and had some quality time with family and friends! This week at JCMES, we’re continuing to settle into our school routines and diving into academic content. Be sure to check out the information below for upcoming events over the next week—we can’t wait to see everyone on Friday morning for our first Walk to School event!
Friday, September 6th:
Our first Walk to School morning will be held on Friday, September 6th from 7:45-8:13am. This is a monthly, weather permitting, event where families are simply invited to walk to school from their homes or the nearby church or school parking lot. It’s a great way to start the day with some fresh air, fun music, and exercise! We sometimes have special guests or other activities happening too. Our first Walk to School of the year does not have a theme but we invite students to wear their new green Jakes shirt if they would like.
September 9th:
Each year the school has 1-2 fundraisers that help provide the funds needed for the year for classroom supplies, furniture, after school programs, and special guests and assemblies. Our first fundraiser will begin on September 9th and will be a catalog of items available for purchase. The school receives a percentage of all sales. In addition, the fundraising company provides some small prize type incentives for students. Participation in the fundraiser is completely optional of course. Students will be coming home with a fundraiser package containing all the details on September 9th.
September 10th:
Join us at 6:30 PM for our PTO meeting in the JCMES STEM Lab. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about upcoming PTO events, discover ways you can contribute, and share your ideas. All are welcome, and your input is invaluable as we plan for a successful year ahead!
September 11th - On Patriot Day we will be wearing red, white and blue and classes will be talking about heroes in our lives and community. 9/11 is an important day in our country’s history but we will keep the emphasis at school on learning about the great United States and heroes around us.
September 11th and 12th:
Next week students in grades 3-5 will be participating in beginning of the year growth assessments in reading and mathematics. We appreciate your support in limiting tardies, early dismissals, and absences on Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th in order to ensure our students are present and prepared for their assessments.
Important Future Dates:
September 19th: Family Welcome Back Picnic @ 6:00 pm
September 27th: Fall Picture Day
We hope everyone has a great evening!
