Dear JCMES Families,
Our weekly newsletter is coming to you a day early this week because we have some schedule and menu changes due to our missed days of school this week that we want you to be aware of. Most importantly however, we are thinking of all the families in our area and beyond that are affected by the flooding. We hope your family has been safe and dry this week. If you are experiencing any hardship due to the weather, please reach out to a counselor or administrator. Sometimes we may just be able to lend a listening ear but other times we may be able to help connect you to resources depending on the need. If your child is experiencing anxiousness related to hearing about the recent hurricane or flooding, it is helpful for your child’s teacher or counselor to know that as well.
Menu change for Wednesday, October 2:
Breakfast: muffin w/ string cheese or cereal bar combo
Lunch: roasted chicken drumstick, assorted veggies
Our cafeteria menu will be as regularly scheduled on Thursday and Friday.
For our schedule changes:
This week was supposed to be our first book cart of the year but we will be moving that to next week instead. Our Rolling Readers Book Cart is hosted by one of our amazing PreK assistants, Ruth Sonifrank. Mrs. Sonifrank and her team are always on the hunt for gently used books to add to their cart if you are ever clearing out bookshelves at home or find some yard sale or thrift store treasures to donate. Each month students have the opportunity to shop for books for their home library. Books are just a quarter each!
Our bookcart next week will be PreK-2 on Wednesday, October 9th and grades 3-5 on Thursday, October 10th.
Friday, October 4th - Walk to School
Our October Walk to School morning will be held on Friday, October 4th from 7:45-8:10am. Families are invited to walk to school from their homes or the nearby church or school parking lot. It is a wonderful way to start the day with some fresh air, fun music, and exercise!
Tuesday, October 8th at 6:30pm - PTO Meeting with snacks! See email for location.
This month we’ll hear from members of the reading team on Title 1 services within our building, as well as highlights from the principals and discuss PTO business that includes our fall family fun day and upcoming fundraising events. All are invited to join! There is no membership required.

Message from Nurse Shavonne:
As we enter the season of sniffles and sore throats, we would like to remind everyone that all over-the-counter medications—including cough drops and throat lozenges—must be brought to school by a parent or guardian. Additionally, an authorization form for the administration of medication needs to be completed so that these items can be given in the clinic. We have had a few instances of students bringing cough drops to school themselves, and we want to make sure we are following proper procedures to keep everyone safe and healthy. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
October has several important events spearheaded by our counseling department. Red Ribbon Week occurs later in October and throughout the month we recognize and bring awareness to Bullying Prevention. Our Counseling Corner newsletter contains more details as well as some upcoming spirit days: https://secure.smore.com/n/5rfjz-counseling-corner
Our October family calendar is now available. A paper copy will be coming home this week. October Family Calendar
Wishing you all a wonderful evening and a great rest of the week!
