Dear JCMES Families,

As we gear up for the Thanksgiving holiday, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible community that makes John C. Myers Elementary such a wonderful place to learn and grow!

This past week, we celebrated an exciting milestone with our 5th Grade Spelling Bee! Congratulations to our spelling bee winner Maleah Vejerano and our spelling bee runner up, Elijah Ford! Maleah will proudly represent JCMES at the RCPS Spelling Bee in January—way to go, Maleah and Elijah!

We are continuing to build a positive and supportive school culture through our school-wide behavior initiative, “I am a Jake!” During the first nine weeks, we focused on what it means to be a “Jake” and how positive choices help shape our special school community. This nine weeks, our focus has shifted to accountability. Students are engaging in meaningful discussions about what it means to be accountable, and we encourage you to extend this learning at home by talking with your child about a time when you demonstrated accountability. These conversations are a fantastic way to support the values we are emphasizing at school.

Be sure to check below for upcoming events!

Upcoming Events:

November 22nd-Spirit Day: This Friday is Spirit Day at JCMES! Students are encouraged to join in the fun by dressing like a turkey or wearing a Jakes shirt. We are looking forward to a day filled with smiles and spirit!

Day of Play - Send us all the dinos!: Families….shhhhh….this next section is just for the adults to know about!  Every year we have a themed day of play in February (Friday, Feb 7th) where we get to experience a day filled with childhood joy and fun!  There are opportunities for free play and opportunities for special stations around our “theme of the year.”

If you are 1) cleaning out or 2) thrifting/yard sale-ing throughout the year and find dinosaur themed decorations, toys, etc. please drop them off at school in a TRASHBAG OR BOX so we can keep the theme under wraps for a while from the students. There are lots of items we will be needing from Amazon as well so once we get closer to the date we will be putting out a sign up for some additional donation items.  If you are a parent that would like to be involved in either planning or helping the day of please email our Coordinator of Fun, Lacey Roberts, at laceyroberts@rockingham.k12.va.us.  Thank you!
